Stop The SEO Crap & Start Piggybacking! by Asmodeus
Ok, I give up! I pray to the search engine Gods everyday "Oh, PLEASE don't lower my page rank...I beg of you!" But they don't listen. Am I failing in my SEO techniques? I'm not on the first page of the search engine listings. I must be doing something wrong! Argghh!! Don't panic! Go for a walk...calm down. Have an apple. Yeah, that's better.
Let's cut through the bull, shall we? Everyone trying to get their site in the search engine rankings is acting like chicken little, running around wondering "what to do, what to DO???" We work hard to bring in traffic, working on SEO, backlinks, RSS feeds, optimization this and that. You rub my back, I'll rub yours. Bah, I say. Bah!
Everyone wants to be on that all glorious number one page in the search engines. They spend vast amounts of money on the Ad-nonsense programs...er, you know what I mean, and that's great if you're HUGE and can afford the big bucks to bring in and make money from your traffic, but what about the rest of us?
If I insulted any big guys out there then you can leave now. Meet me outside. Ok, anyone else left? Good, now what can the rest of us do? Well, it's really quite simple, actually. Better still, I'm not asking for any money to tell you, unlike 99% of the crappers out there on the web.
What you do is simply "piggyback" on the big guys. That's right. Let them do the SEO work for you! A large website, such as YouTube or Squidoo, or whatever else is all the rage for 6 months until something new comes along, will naturally be found in Google, due in large part by the sheer number of users (and pages) within that site. So, the site itself will be found. All you have to do is create an account on a big site and then optimize your keywords within that site.
For example, your own site has a page selling home electronics. It would be a very difficult uphill battle to compete in such a large market against all the "big boys" out there to rank high in the search engines. Most search engines only show 10-20 results on their first page. What are your chances of making it to the top 10 or 20 against 1000's of other similar sites? Not good.
Even worse is having one product on a page trying to make it to the top in that fight for the chosen keyword the searcher has typed in. One page of your site trying to make it big is not good odds, but having a mini site as one page within a BIG site and your odds get much better. You are still competing for keywords among the other members of a site, but it's much better to compete against a FEW members promoting similar products on ONE site, than against EVERYONE promoting similar products along the entire internet!
A few months ago I had just started a brand new site, that wasn't even indexed by any of the search engines yet. I joined up with 3 of the big sites and started optimizing my keywords within those sites. Not even TWO weeks later my own site reference was listed in the top TEN on Google! Sure, it wasn't my ACTUAL site, but it was FREE advertising, as it didn't cost me anything to join the other sites, and now buyers had an actual link they could click on to get to me!
I highly recommend you piggyback on the big sites to pull your way up the search engine ladder. It's a great way to at least get started until you're big enough to compete in the huge world wide web market. It worked for me and I know it will work for you. Best of luck to you!
